Program Overview:

This program is used to calculate the different types of charges that are applicable for a container.

After the discharge confirmation, if the customer has not picked the container from the port within the allowed free days, shipping line has to pay storage cost to the Port / Terminal authority based on days slab rate which is called Demurrage. The shipping line will collect these applicable charges from the customer. Similarly, after taking the container delivery, if the customer has not returned back the empty container within the allowed free days, shipping line will charge for the additional days retained by the customer which is called “Detention”.

1.Demurrage - Charge levied by the shipping line to the customers who have not taken delivery of the container from the port, after the expiry of allowed free days of storage.

2.Detention - Charge levied by the shipping line to the customers for not returning the empty container to the nominated empty depot after the expiry of the allowed free days.

3.Storage - ??

The Demurrage, Detention and Storage charges for the containers are pre-defined in the Demurrage/Detention Setup.

Mostly these charges are applicable at import side but in some cases, it is applicable in Export side too under similar scenario. The calculation of the charges are based on containers move dates. On the basis of configured moves, system will calculate the days in order to invoice customer accordingly based on days slab rate.
